Problems trying to connect my nano up to my tv

I wish to connect my ipod to my tv because i have some video files on there that i want to watch. I have tried doing it before and i got no where with it. I think i am missing the cable perhaps. I have asked my friends how to connect nano to tv but they were not sure themselves. I think it has something to do with an av cable but i have no idea what this looks like or where to get one from. I do not have one of those apple shops near me so i am unable to just pop in and ask, i am also not sure on if that is what it is called. I do hope it can be done with this one because i do not really want to buy a different model because i do really like this one and it is really smart. I know i can connect to a stereo and play my music through that or even through my car stereo, just hope i can do it with the tv too.
